To start off, we are open and seeing patients. We are requesting appointments only rather than walk ins due to trying to keep people limited in the person to person contact as well as being able to clean and wipe things down prior to the next patient coming in. We will be getting back to normal 5 days a week as things progress.
I wanted to share 4 quick health tips that you can do right now during this COVID 19 scenario. I understand a lot of things are off the table due to being closed and such but that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything.
Tip 1: First off, I’m seeing a little change in the conditions that are coming into the office. Rather than the falls or accidents, I’m seeing more sitting around for too long and small repetitive problems. Keep moving. If that involves taking a break and changing positions every 30 mins or so, that is huge. So when taking little breaks like this, if you are taking a break every 30 minutes from the same position, take 10 seconds or so and change positions or stretch real quick. If you are doing this often, it will not take much to counter the changes that occur in your body rather than sitting for 4 hours and then standing up is more difficult.
Tip 2: Breathing. I have seen a lot of issues with this one over the past month or 2. We have a tendency to breath from our chest when we are stressed or in pain. There is definitely a lot of stress going on right now with the corona virus. This can cause a lot of neck tension, headaches, jaw pain, and upper back pain. Try and get back into that belly or diaphragmatic breathing. An easy thing you can do at home is lay on the ground and put something around 10 pounds on your stomach and push that weight up and down while you breath. These breathes don’t have to get up into your chest, you don’t need that much air when you are relaxing or sitting around watching this video.
Tip 3: Nutrition. Don’t overlook good nutrition, especially right now. Getting a lot of fluids and remembering our fruits and vegetables is great for helping you feel better as well as improve your ability to fight off diseases. Things like fruits and vegetables have the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy, which are needed now probably more than ever. If we can keep our immune system functioning at its highest level, that is about the best we can do right now.
Tip 4: Movement or Exercise. Exercise has a large amount of benefits. Walking has significant benefits for recovery as well as things like decreasing cardiovascular risk and osteoporosis. Walking is something so simply that pretty everybody can do right now, especially in Tahoe right now with all the great weather and sunshine. Get out and go for a walk and enjoy what we have.
